Introduction
Athounon is best known as the center of the Serthoulde Campaign, where hidden EDENCOM and Triglavian facilities became the focus of a technological race between the empires. Discoveries made here helped shape the Shadow War and the development of modern shipcaster technology.
Locations
Located in the Serthoulde constellation of the Placid region, Athounon was once an unremarkable border system between Gallente and Caldari spheres of influence. That changed dramatically in the years following the Triglavian Invasion, when hidden EDENCOM installations, Triglavian relay sites, and secret research operations were uncovered throughout the area. Today, Athounon is remembered as one of the key locations that shaped the technological race later known as the Shadow War, linking the system forever to the origins of New Eden’s modern shipcaster era.
Although inactive today, capsuleers equipped with an Entosis Link can perform an intrusive retrieval scan against the EDENCOM Secure Relays. Fragmentary data recovered from these systems has revealed traces of EDENCOM operations, encrypted communications, and information connected to the events that later became known as the Shadow War. While most recovered records remain incomplete, the relay offers a rare glimpse into the hidden technological struggle that unfolded throughout the Serthoulde constellation.
EDENCOM Secure Relay Alpha
Orbiting near one of Athounon’s moons, EDENCOM Secure Relay Alpha appears at first glance to be a modest communications installation. Closer inspection reveals scattered debris surrounding the structure, hinting at past conflict or a hurried abandonment. The relay was designed to receive telemetry from local sources before transmitting the information through secure fluid-router channels to remote EDENCOM facilities.
EDENCOM Secure Relay Beta
Unlike the more isolated relay installations found elsewhere in Athounon, EDENCOM Secure Relay Beta lies within a turbulent pocket of charged particles and electrical activity. Fragments of wreckage drift through the illuminated cloud surrounding the site, while flashes of energy periodically ripple across the nebular formation.
EDENCOM Secure Relay Gamma
EDENCOM Secure Relay Gamma bears the clearest signs of destruction. The relay remains largely intact, but nearby wreckage and scattered debris suggest that the installation was caught in a violent engagement or deliberately disabled during the turmoil that followed the Triglavian invasion.
State Occupied Research Station
Surrounded by military patrols and suspended within atmospheric clouds, the State Occupied Research Station stands at the heart of one of New Eden’s most significant recent historical sites. While the surrounding relays and debris fields reveal fragments of the story, this facility represents the point where those fragments were brought together and studied.
The station became a focal point of Caldari research efforts. Data recovered from local relay networks, Triglavian installations, and classified EDENCOM operations passed through facilities such as this one, contributing to breakthroughs that would later influence the shipcaster programs of the major empires. Gallente Federation Stargate construction
The hidden networks, recovered transmissions, and technological discoveries that once fueled the Shadow War have long since left the realm of classified research. Here, among construction platforms and partially completed stargate structures, travelers can witness the lasting consequences of those events. What began as fragments of encrypted data and contested scientific breakthroughs has become part of the infrastructure connecting the stars themselves.
