Discover the experimental Upwell installation where capsuleers helped construct the prototype that would eventually become the Orbital Skyhook, one of the most significant advances in modern planetary infrastructure.
Introduction
Orbiting Auviken VI, this secretive Upwell installation remained shrouded in secrecy throughout its construction.
The mysterious engineering project would later be revealed as the prototype for the Upwell Consortium’s Orbital Skyhook.
Locations
The Upwell Prototype Construction Facility and its neighbouring Upwell Applied Gravitation Research Center mark the site of a YC126 engineering project that invited capsuleers to assist in its development. Pilots were tasked with recovering specialised Rogue Drone components, helping Upwell test new gravitation technologies while earning rewards for their contributions.
As construction progressed, rumours spread across New Eden. The Scope reported leaked information about a mysterious structure, while an unexplained two-second interruption of the Auviken cynosural jammer only fuelled speculation surrounding the project. Upwell remained largely silent, offering little explanation about what was being built.
The mystery was finally resolved with the Equinox expansion. The experimental framework preserved here became the prototype for the Upwell Consortium Orbital Skyhook, the orbital infrastructure that now supports planetary resource extraction throughout sovereign null security space. Today, Auviken remains the only place where capsuleers can visit the birthplace of this technology.
