Introduction
These prototype devices were the beginning of a technological arms race over stellar manipulation and the cause of the Turnur Cataclysm.
Locations
Harnessing Triglavian technology, stellar transmuters are devices that allow for stellar manipulation. This is how the Triglavians created Pochven. The empires quickly sought to reverse-engineer the Triglavian transmuters for their own ends, which led to an extensive arms race and the Turnur Cataclysm when a runaway Amarr prototype destabilized Turnur's star.
After capturing a Triglavian stellar manipulation device in Arshat, the Amarr Empire quickly set up three of their own prototype devices in the contested Minmatar systems of Turnur, Egmar, and Vard. The Turnur device experienced a runaway destabilization that destroyed much of the system, and the other two prototypes were captured and deactivated by the Minmatar Republic. This fiasco started the transmuter arms race in earnest.
While the captured Arshat device no longer exists, the two captured Amarr prototypes can still be visited by capsuleers, albeit in an inactive state. Republic ancillary structures are still visible around them, and the transmuters are noticeably less refined than the perfected versions later deployed by the four empires.
